Vikas Sunda is an officer of the Indian Police Service, allotted to
the Gujarat cadre in 2018, and currently the Superintendent of Police
for Kutch (West), headquartered at Bhuj.
His service has moved deliberately across the range of what the
Indian Police Service asks of an officer in a single decade. Early
sub-divisional charge in Bharuch placed him in direct contact with
the everyday texture of policing: local grievance, industrial
geography, festival crowds, the slow accumulation of trust that a
sub-division either builds or forfeits.
From there the assignments widened. Coastal Security at Gandhinagar
turned attention seaward, to a state whose shoreline is among the
longest in the country and whose security posture is inseparable
from its fishing fleets, its ports and its patrol craft. A tenure at
Raj Bhavan as Aide-de-Camp to the Governor set the work against
constitutional form — the ceremony, precedence and precision
that surround a high office of state.
In December 2024 he took charge of Kutch (West): a district of
salt desert and coastline, of a rebuilt city and an international
frontier. In August 2025 the Chief of the Army Staff commendation was
conferred on him on Independence Day, in recognition of his service
during Operation Sindoor — a rare civil-police recognition
from the Army, and the clearest public marker of the district's
position on the national map.
